History[]

KTVA is Alaska's first TV station, having signed on the air on December 11, 1953. The station arried a few NBC programs in the late 1960s, until KHAR-TV (now KIMO) took the NBC affiliation in 1970. The station was a DuMont affiliate in the early 1950s [1]. During the late 1950s, the station was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network.[2]

KTVA even carried Sesame Street from 1970 until KAKM signed on in May 1975.
