Black Toad is a Marvel Comics supervillain, whose first and last appearance was in Captain America Comics #7 (October 1941): "Death Loads the Bases". He was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby.
Fictional character biography[]
The Black Toad's true identity was the manager of the baseball team the Badgers, Chuck McArthur. He donned a bat costume, and secretly murdered the star players, making the team appear to be a jinx team, so he could own the team at a very low cost. After he was caught by Captain America and Bucky, who were attending the game, he plummeted to his death. Some believe that the character was originally to be named the Bat, but Marvel feared they would be sued by DC Comics. So the name was smudged out at the last second and replaced by 'the Toad'.
Powers and abilities[]
The Black Toad used a blowgun with poison darts in it. In addition, he had various henchman working for him some of whom wielded machine guns.
