Donna Brown (formerly Tubbs) is a fictional character on The Cleveland Show. She is voiced by Sanaa Lathan. Donna was developed by Creators Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry and Rich Appel. The character was established as the wife of Cleveland Brown and the Mother of Roberta Tubbs and Rallo Tubbs. The character is described as feisty, intelligent and enjoys a party.[1]
Storyline[]
The Cleveland Show[]
Donna grew up in Stoolbend Virginia where she met Cleveland Brown. Cleveland immediately took a liking to her but she was already with Robert Tubbs, who treated her badly. She had two children with him, Roberta and Rallo, and has since split up with Robert and now the wife of Clevland and works as the principal's assistant at Stoolbend High School. As a result of her marriage to Cleveland, she has also gained a third child, Cleveland Jr..
Donna and Cleveland were initially best friends in high school, although Cleveland clearly had romantic feelings towards her. Donna unfortunately was for the most part oblivious to his feelings, and instead dated Cleveland's unofficial rival Robert. Despite Cleveland's attempts to get Donna to see Robert for what he truly was (a self-centered, irresponsible jerk), Donna ended up marrying Robert shortly after graduation. Seeing no reason to remain, Cleveland left Stoolbend and Donna behind.
Despite many attempts at making their marriage work, Donna and Robert ended up separating due to Robert's heavy drinking and drug abuse, leaving Donna to raise their children alone. Robert would visit occasionally, more out of selfish desire rather than any familiar reasons. After years apart, Donna was of course overjoyed to see her best friend, Cleveland again. Cleveland and his son, who were passing through Stoolbend while driving to California, had stopped by the high school to retrace Cleveland's old haunting grounds. Donna offers that the Browns stay at her house, which resulted in a rekindling of their friendship that soon blossomed into a full-blown romance. The two soon married.
Having been friends for years prior to getting married, Cleveland and Donna have a close relationship both sexually and platonically. Donna comes off much more patient and understanding than Cleveland's first wife, Loretta, and is more attentive to him as well. Her relationship with her children meanwhile is somewhat more shaky, as both her children are the result of a broken home and a neglectful father. Donna does her best to keep her children under control, but is aware that they need a father figure at times. Yet despite any issues that she and her kids have, its clear that they care for one another. Donna's relationship with Cleveland Jr. meanwhile is as of yet underdeveloped, save for the fact that Cleveland Jr. is quick to do what he can to follow Donna's wishes for fear of another divorce occurring. In The Curious Case of Jr. Working at The Stool Donna tells Roberta that even though Tubbs woman may let men walked over them, they take no Shit from woman. and engorges her to copy everything that Lacey does.
Family Guy[]
Although only appearing in Family Guy once she has referenced the residents that live there such as Peter Griffin, Glen Quagmire, Herbert an The Greased up Deaf Guy In the Family Guy episode The Splendid Source, she appeared when Peter Griffin, Joe Swanson, Glenn Quagmire, Lois Griffin, And Bonnie reached Virginia, they found Cleveland. While Peter, Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire keep on finding the source of the dirty joke, Lois and Bonnie decided to stay with Donna and the kids.
Casting[]
Auditions were held for the part of Donna the voice actor needed to have a type of redneck voice the part eventually went to Sanaa Lathan.[citation needed] Sanaa Lathan has appeared in many films such as The Family That Preys, Love & Basketball and Alien vs. Predator, Something New. The Voice of Donna is her first voice acting role.[2]
