Barbra (Judith O'Dea), is a fictional character from the first of George A. Romero's living dead films, Night of the Living Dead. She is Johnny's sister and is rather dependent.

While Barbra and her brother Johnny (Russell Streiner) drive to a Pennsylvania cemetery to place a wreath on their father's grave, Johnny teases her because she is afraid of cemeteries, taunting, "They're coming to get you, Barbra!" As Johnny jeers at Barbra, a pale-faced man lumbers toward the pair. The man suddenly grabs Barbra and Johnny rushes to save her. While fighting with the man, Johnny falls and smashes his head on a gravestone. Barbra flees in Johnny's car, driving it into a tree. She abandons the car and runs into a nearby farmhouse to hide. She soon discovers that others like the man are outside.

Barbra is joined by Ben (Duane Jones), who arrives in a pickup truck. Ben boards up the doors and windows from the inside with dismantled furniture and scraps of wood as Barbra becomes hysterical. Ben finds a rifle and a radio as Barbra lies incapacitated on a couch in the living room. The two are unaware that Harry and Helen Cooper, their daughter Karen, and teenage couple Tom and Judy have been hiding in the cellar. Harry wants the group to barricade themselves in the cellar, but Ben argues that they would, effectively, be trapping themselves down there.

Later, when the undead are breaking into the house, Barbra rouses to assist Ben in trying to keep them out. She sees her brother Johnny among them. She hesitates and Johnny pulls her out of the house and into the zombie horde.

• In the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, Barbra's (renamed Barbara) fate is altered, as well as her demeanor; depicted as more independent in the remake, Barbara survives the events of the film.

Ben is the main protagonist of Night of the Living Dead, the first of George A. Romero's living dead films.

Ben arrives in a pickup truck at a farmhouse where Barbra was hiding and attacks lumbering zombie figures with a tire iron. Ben boards then proceeds to board up the doors and windows from the inside with dismantled furniture and scraps of wood as Barbra becomes hysterical. Ben finds a rifle and a radio as Barbra lies incapacitated on a couch in the living room. The two are unaware that Harry and Helen Cooper, their daughter Karen, and teenage couple Tom and Judy have been hiding in the cellar. Harry wants the group to barricade themselves in the cellar, but Ben argues that they would, effectively, be trapping themselves down there.

Ben manages to hold them back, but drops his rifle. Harry seizes the fallen rifle and turns it on Ben, who wrests it away from Harry and then shoots him. Harry stumbles into the cellar and dies.

Shortly after, Barbra, Helen, Harry and Karen are all killed. Ben retreats into the cellar, locking the door behind. In the morning, a posse approaches the house and proceeds to kill the remaining zombies. Hearing the commotion, Ben ascends the cellar stairs into the living room and is shot in the head by a posse member who mistakes him for a zombie. His body is carried from the house and burned with the zombie corpses.

• Ben meets a different fate in the 1990 version of Night of the Living Dead, which has him dying after being shot by Harry Cooper and barricading himself in the basement of the farm house. Ben zombifies and later tries to attack Barbara, only to be killed by her and a gang of redneck zombie killers.

Ben retreats into the cellar and locks the door behind him (which, ironically, was Harry's plan all along). He shoots the reanimated Harry and Helen Cooper.

• In the 1990 remake, Harry survived the zombie onslaught by escaping into the attic. When the zombie-killers cleared out the house, Harry came down, and was promptly shot by Barbara for his actions.As a tribute Barbara makes a comment of him being a zombie most likely revenge for Ben as he seemed to have a care for her and vice versa.

While Judy and her boyfriend Tom (played by Keith Wayne), where driving to a lake to swim, a radio report reported mass murder is sweeping across the eastern seaboard of the United States. Judy and Tom found the Cooper family after their daughter was bitten by a zombie, becoming ill. They all ran to a farmhouse and hid in its celler to escape from the prowling zombies. Later two other people Ben and Barbra came into the house to hide unaware that Judy, Tom and the Cooper family where their hiding in the cellar. Harry Cooper tells the group he wants the group to barricade themselves in the cellar, but Ben argues that they would, effectively, be trapping themselves down there. Ben carries the argument, and the group cooperates (begrudgingly, in Harry's case) to reinforce the main part of the house.

Ben devises a plan to escape using his truck, but it needs refueling. He exits the house armed with the rifle and a torch. Karen stabs her mother with a garden trowel, killing her, before going upstairs and attacking Ben who escapes from her and the increasing number of zombies by fleeing to the cellar.

• In the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, Karen was named Sarah.

Cemetery Zombie (Bill Hinzman) is a fictional character from the first of George A. Romero's living dead films, Night of the Living Dead.

He was once dead however as the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he wakes up and becomes a zombie.

While a brother and sister named Barbra (Judith O'Dea) and Johnny (Russell Streiner) visit their father's grave, the Cemetery Zombie lumbers toward the pair. Cemetery Zombie suddenly grabs Barbra as Johnny rushes to save her. While Johnny fights the Cemetery Zombie, he falls and smashes his head on a gravestone. Barbra flees in Johnny's car, driving it into a tree. Cemetery Zombie follows her and she abandons the car and runs into a nearby farmhouse to hide and soon discovers that others like the Cemetery Zombie are outside.

Blades (Tom Savini), is a fictional character from George A. Romero's living dead films Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead. Blades is a member of a gang of bikers.

When the entire world is struck by a plague, which causes the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary instinct is to feast on the flesh of the living, Blades and his group of bikers travel across the country in a convoy of bikes, stealing and plundering. One day they find a mall where three living survivors, Peter, Francine and Stephen, hide inside. Blades and the gang of bikers decide to break into the mall.

When night comes, Blades and the bikers break into the mall and in the process, let in hundreds of the undead creatures. Blades delights in killing zombies with his machete as the gang steal from the shops. During the plunder, Stephen foolishly initiates a battle with the bikers. Blades tries to shoot at Peter, who shoots back, however Blades is shot and falls from upstairs and dies. In the end, the only true victors are the ravenous zombies, who feast upon many of the bikers.

In Land of the Dead, Tom Savini can be briefly seen as a zombie (credited as "Machete Zombie"), reprising his character Blades. This marks the first time an actor has reprised a role in a Romero zombie movie. Blades is seen at Fiddler's Green, holding a machete while he and a large group of zombies attack it. In the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, Savini is seen on TV as a sheriff who tells the listeners to shoot the zombies in the head and burn the bodies.

Cigarette Officer (Randy Kovitz), is a fictional character from George A. Romero's living dead films Dawn of the Dead. He worked at the police dock as an officer and smoked.

When the entire world is struck by a plague, which causes the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary instinct is to feast on the flesh of the living, him and three other police dock officers planned to take a police boat and go to an island. However when two people called Stephen and Francine came to the police dock in a WGON traffic-watch helicopter to re-fuel it, and to meet two other people called Peter and Roger, they held them at gun point. They wanted to go with Stephen and Francine, however decided not to because none of them could drive the helicopter.

When Roger and Peter drive up to the helicopter at the boat docks, the police stop holding them at gun point, and the police unload a police van into the boat. Just before the helicopter takes off, Cigarette Officer asks them if they have any cigarettes. However they all lie and Stephen asks were their going. Cigarette Officer tells him their going up river then to any island. After he rushes to the boat, still asking if they have cigarettes and the helicopter takes off and the police start to drive boat, to an unknown fate.

Dock Officer (Joe Pilato), is a fictional character from George A. Romero's living dead films Dawn of the Dead. He worked at the police dock as an officer and always had a plan within a plan.

When the entire world is struck by a plague, which causes the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary instinct is to feast on the flesh of the living, him as the leader and three other police dock officers planned to take a police boat and go to an island. However when two people called Stephen and Francine came to the police dock in a WGON traffic-watch helicopter to re-fuel it, and to meet two other people called Peter and Roger, he and the other officers held them at gun point. Francine Parker (played by Gaylen Ross) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead. She is a TV news technician with WGON television. Unlike Night of the Living Dead, where the primary female character was catatonic for most of the movie, Francine is more independent and assertive, demanding to learn necessary survival skills following a narrow escape from death.

As the entire world is struck by a plague which causes the dead to reanimate with the primary instinct to feast on the flesh of the living, Francine works at the WGON television studio in Philadelphia. Her boyfriend, Stephen, plans to sneak out and steal the studio's traffic helicopter to escape the zombie threat. Francine and Stephen sneak out and meet two other survivors, Peter and Roger. The four escape in a helicopter, fleeing the city with the intention of reaching the safety of the Canadian wilderness.

Following close calls while stopping for fuel, the group comes across a shopping mall which becomes their own private sanctuary. The four hide from the zombies in an apartment in the upstairs of the mall. While Peter, Roger and Stephen are getting food from the shops, one zombie, a Hare Krisha, found the staircase to the room where they were hiding. While Francine hides in the room, the Hare Krisha came up the stairway. Francine tries to block the door with boxes to no avail. Peter, Roger and Stephen come back in time to shoot the Hare Krisha.

Peter and Roger block the large glass doors with trucks to keep the undead out. It is during this operation that the impulsive Roger becomes reckless and is bitten, dooming him to death. After clearing the mall of its zombie inhabitants, the four settle in, each indulging their every material desire. Eventually dying from his wounds, Roger is shot by Peter as he begins to reanimate.

Months pass and Francine is learning how to fly a helicopter and is also roughly four months pregnant with Stephen's baby. However one night, a gang of bikers breaks into the mall and in the process, let in hundreds of the zombies.

During the plunder, Stephen foolishly initiates a battle with the bikers. In the end, the victors in the chaos that ensues are the ravenous zombies, who feast upon many of the bikers, while Stephen dies from wounds inflicted by the them. When the bikers retreat from the mall as the zombies become too numerous, Stephen reanimates as a zombie. Upon Stephen's reanimation, he leads a large group of the creatures to Francine and Peter, who await Stephen's return. After killing Stephen, Peter and Francine escape to the roof — and to an uncertain future as they fly away in the partially-fueled helicopter.

• In the remake Dawn of the Dead there is a clothing store named after Gaylen Ross

Peter Washington (Ken Foree) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead. Peter is the main protagonist, and is African-American. He is resourceful and intelligent, but initially reserved and guarded with the other characters. He is a member of the Philadelphia Police Department SWAT team.

The entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living. Peter and the rest of his SWAT team raid an apartment building (presumably because the residents, mostly Hispanic and Black Caribbeans, are ignoring the martial law imposition of delivering the dead over to National Guardsmen). During the raid Roger meets Peter, part of another SWAT team, and the two go down to the apartment building basement to find the stairs missing and the basement packed full of undead. Peter and Roger kill them all.

Late that night, Peter and Roger meet two other survivors, Francine and Stephen. The four escape in a helicopter, fleeing the city with the intention of reaching the safety of the Canadian wilderness. Following some close calls while stopping for fuel, the group happens to come across a shopping mall. They make it into their own private sanctuary, blocking the large glass doors with trucks to keep the undead out. It is during this operation that the impulsive Roger becomes reckless and is bitten, dooming him to death. Eventually dying from his wounds, Roger is shot by Peter as he begins to reanimate. Later, Peter suggests they block the staircase to the upstairs apartment in which they are hiding to keep them from being discovered by others who may come into the mall.

One night, a gang of bikers break into the mall and in the process, let in hundreds of zombies. During the biker's plundering, Stephen foolishly initiates a battle with the bikers. A biker, Blades, tries to shoot at Peter, who retaliates by shooting back, killing Blades. In the end, the bikers retreat after being massacred by zombies and Stephen is killed.

Upon Stephen's reanimation, he leads a group of the creatures to the hallway where the staircase to the apartment is hidden, where Francine and Peter await Stephen's return. After killing Stephen, Francine escape to the roof while Peter tries to fight off the zombies. However there are too many zombies. Peter puts a gun to his head, ready to shoot himself, before suddenly deciding to live and begins shooting zombies. Peter quickly gets to the roof where he and Francine take off to an uncertain future as they fly away in the partially-fueled helicopter.

• In the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead Ken Foree, plays an evangelist who asserts that God is punishing mankind; also Kenneth Hall from the remake is a nod to Ken Foree both in name and similar role and occupation.

He is a SWAT team member involved in the assault on the zombie filled apartment complex 107, though not part of the same unit as other SWAT member Peter. He first meets Peter in the basement, where they decide to join forces. Roger is given to reckless behavior and macho posturing.

Roy Tucker (Rod Stouffer) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead. He is an older teenager, roughly eighteen, fresh out of SWAT training camp, and was completely unprepared for the raids on civilian buildings to reclaim the dead.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living. Roy in his SWAT team raid an apartment building (presumably because the residents, mostly Hispanic and Black Caribbeans, are ignoring the martial law imposition of delivering the dead over to National Guardsmen). Roy is the first casualty in the raid (and in the film itself) when one of the residents shoots him in the head. Roy Tucker does not come back as a zombie because his brain was severely damaged.

• In the remake of Dawn of the Dead he is referenced by a character named Tucker.

Sledge

Sledge was one of the bikers that broke into the Monroeville Mall. His name derives from his choice of weapon to battle the undead, a sledgehammer. After taking a bullet from Peter, Sledge is swarmed by zombies and eviscerated. It is unknown at this time if Sledge turned into a zombie or was just eaten.

Moonbaby

Moonbaby is one of the bikers that raided the Monroeville Mall. Moonbaby is considered by many fans to be Blades side kick due to his almost always close proximity to him and assiting him in many tasks like holding a zombies head while Blades machetes it or chasing down Peter. Moonbaby is shot by Peter on the second floor of the mall and is later seen being mauled by zombies. A shot of the upper level of the mall reveals his remains and suggesting that he did not reanimate.

Sombrero (Tony Buba) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead. Sombrero is a heavyset biker. He is a member of the biker gang that raids the mall in Dawn of the Dead.

When the entire world is struck by a plague, which causes the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary instinct is to feast on the flesh of the living, Sombreo and the group of bikers travel across the country in a convoy of bikes, stealing and plundering. One day they find a mall where three living survivors. The gang of bikers decide to break into the mall.

When night comes, the bikers break into the mall. During the raid scene in the mall, Sombrero is first seen blowing the locked door of the mall, releasing hundreds of zombies into Monroeville Mall. After Blades is shot by Peter, the bikers flee the mall, deserting Sombrero. While being chased by zombies, Sombrero decides to check his blood pressure at a Blood Pressure Testing Machine. The zombies attack, ripping Sombrero off the machine and leaving his dismembered arm hanging on the machine; the machine reads "Blood Pressure: 0" It is unknown whether Sombrero was turned to a zombie or was eaten by them.

Stephen Andrews (David Emge) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead. He is the WGON traffic-watch pilot, and initially the only character capable of flying the helicopter (earning him the nickname "Flyboy"). Stephen at times seems incompetent and petty, resentful of any threat to his authority/position.

As the entire world is struck by a plague which causes the dead to reanimate with the primary instinct to feast on the flesh of the living, Stephen and his girlfriend Francine plan to sneak out and steal the studio's traffic helicopter to escape the zombie threat. Succeeded in escaping the city, the two meet two other survivors, Peter and Roger. The four escape in a helicopter, fleeing the city with the intention of reaching the safety of the Canadian wilderness.

Following close calls while stopping for fuel, the group happens to come across a shopping mall which becomes their own private sanctuary. The four hide in a room away from the zombies in the mall and blocking the large glass doors with trucks to keep the undead out. While doing this, Roger becomes the first casualty of the group, being attacked by a zombie and later dying.

Months pass in the shopping mall and Francine is learning how to fly a helicopter and is also roughly four months pregnant with Stephen's baby. However one night, a gang of bikers break into the mall and in the process, let in hundreds of the undead creatures. During the plunder, Stephen foolishly initiates a battle with the bikers. During the chaos that ensues with the zombies and bikers battling each other, Stephen is fatally injured in an attack by the zombies and dies, later reanimating. After the zombies defeat the bikers, who retreat, Stephen leads his undead brethren to both Peter and Francine. While attacking Peter, Stephen is killed by him after being shot in the head.

Wooley

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, Wooley and the rest of his SWAT team raid an apartment building, the residents of which have been defying the martial law set by the National Guard.

After taking care of the people on the rooftop, Wooley and rest of his team enter apartment complex 107. However Wooley is killed by Peter by being shot, after he starts to kill innocent people, simply because they were minorities. It is unknown whether Wooley was turned into a zombie.

• In the remake of Dawn of the Dead a diner is named after him.

The Living Dead

She wandered around Monroeville and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall. One day a group of living survivors came to the mall called; Peter, Francine, Stephen and Roger and becomes their own private sanctuary and the four hide from the zombies in an apartment in the upstairs of the mall.

After the living block the large glass doors with trucks, they must lock the large glass doors. While doing this they use a show car to drive around the mall. However while driving, Bandana Girl holds onto the car and is shot dead.

Escalator Zombie

Esccalator zombie (Clayton Hill) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he was bitten, died and came back to life as a zombie. He wandered around Monroeville and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall. One day a group of living survivors came to the mall called; Peter, Francine, Stephen and Roger and becomes their own private sanctuary and the four hide from the zombies in an apartment in the upstairs of the mall. While Peter and Roger are trying to get food from a shop, they turn on the escalators and music to confuse the zombies. He is one of the zombies confused when he goes onto the escalator, with him unknown what the escalators are. After the living block the large glass doors with trucks and he is locked outside.

A few months later a gang of bikers break into the mall and in the process, lets hundreds of the zombies in. After Stephen turns into a zombie, he leads escalator zombie and a large group of the zombies to the other survivors. However the living takes off in a helicopter and now he staggers the grounds of the Monroeville Mall where he remains to this day.

Hare Krishna Zombie

Hare Krishna Zombie (Michael Berhosky) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

He was once a hare krishna, however as the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he was bitten, died and came back to life as a zombie. He wandered around Monroelle and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall. One day a group of living survivors came to the mall to hide in.

The four living hide from the zombies in an apartment in the upstairs of the mall. While three of them; Peter, Stephen and Roger, are getting food from the shops, Hare Krisha zombie finds the staircase to the room where they were hiding. While Francine, one of the other living, hides in the room, the Hare Krisha zombie comes up stairway. Francine tries to block the door with boxes to no avail. The Hare Krisha gets through but is head butted with a rifle, so as not to attract other Zombies when Peter, Roger and Stephen come back.

Helicopter Zombie

Helicopter zombie (Jim Krut) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he was bitten, died and came back to life as a zombie. He wandered around Monroeville and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville airport. He hid near a plane, until a group of four living people in a WGON traffic helicopter to fuel it.

While Roger putting fuel into it, the Helicopter Zombie creeped towards him. When he got near to him he stood onto of some boxes, however walked into the blades of the Helicopter getting the top of his head chopped off.

This zombie was played by Jim Krut who had an extra 2 inches of forehead applied by Tom Savini to pull off the helicopter stunt.

M-16 Zombie

M-16 zombie (Jay Stover) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he was bitten, died and came back to life as a zombie. He wandered around Monroeville and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall. One day a group of living survivors came to the mall called; Peter, Francine, Stephen and Roger and becomes their own private sanctuary and the four hide from the zombies in an apartment in the upstairs of the mall. While the living are trying to get food from a shop with two floors, M-16 Zombie takes Roger's rifle from him, while the living are trying to get into the shop. After the living block the large glass doors with trucks and he is locked outside.

A few months pass and a gang of bikers break into the mall and in the process, lets hundreds of the zombies in. After Stephen turns into a zombie, he leads M-16 zombie and a large group of the zombies to the other survivors. While the living are trying to escape, M-16 zombie takes Peter's rifle. However the living take off in a helicopter and he now staggers the grounds of the Monroeville Mall where he remains to this day.

Machete Zombie

Machete zombie (Lenny Lies) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he was bitten, died and came back to life as a zombie. He wandered around Monroeville and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall. One day a group of living survivors came to the mall to hide in and blocked the large glass doors with trucks he was locked outside.

However one night, a gang of bikers breaks into the mall and in the process, let in hundreds of the zombies. The gang steal from the shops and delights in killing zombies. However one biker named Blades, with his machete, kills him with his machete cutting his head opened.

Miguelito

Miguelito (Tommy Lafitte) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

Miguelito and his wife lived in apartment complex 107, most likely Black Caribbean immigrants down on their luck, however as the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he is bitten, most likely one of the ones helping dump the dead boddies in the basement, he then died and came back to life as a zombie. During this, residents of apartment complex 107 ignored the martial law imposition of delivering the dead over to National Guardsmen and a SWAT team raids the apartment building. During the raid, he was in a room with other zombie residents, and some SWAT team members go in there to kill them, however he walks out unnoticed and heads towards a stairway. Miguelito's wife see's him and the SWAT team; unable to hold her back and runs to Miguel and hugges him, thinking that he is still her husband. However Miguel bites her on the neck and arm. Quickly the SWAT team shoot at him and Miguel dies and stays dead.

It should be noted a bit later on there is a zombie who looks almost identical Miguel seen among other undead at the Monroeville Mall, this was most likely the actor being used again as an extra to save on budget.

Nurse Zombie

Nurse zombie (Sharon Ceccati) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead. She was a nurse who worked in Monroeville hospital.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, she was bitten by a zombie patient in the emergency ward, died and came back to life as a zombie. She wandered out of the hospital and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall. When a group of survivors called; Peter, Francine, Stephen and Roger, come to the mall she was confused by them running upstairs and downstairs. After the group blocked the large glass doors with trucks she was locked outside.

A few months pass and a gang of bikers break into the mall and in the process, hundreds of the zombies in. After Stephen turns into a zombie, he leads nurse zombie and a large group of the zombies to the other survivors. However the living takes off in a helicopter and now she staggers the grounds of the Monroeville Mall where she remains to this day.

Overweight Zombie

Overweight zombie (Lee Cummings) is a fictional character from the second of George A. Romero's living dead films, Dawn of the Dead.

As the entire world is struck by a plague, the result of which is the reanimation of dead human beings whose primary goal is to feast on the flesh of the living, he was bitten, died and came back to life as a zombie. He wandered around Monroeville and staggered to the grounds of the Monroeville Mall, just wearing his swimming trunks. One day a group of living survivors came to the mall to hide in and blocked the large glass doors with trucks and he was locked outside.

A few months pass before a gang of bikers break into the mall and in the process, let hundreds of the zombies inside. The gang steal from the shops and delight in killing zombies. However, the Overweight zombie is amongst them, and is shot by a biker causing him to fall into the mall's fountain.

Captain Rhodes (Joseph Pilato) is a fictional character from George A. Romero's living dead films Day of the Dead. Rhodes was the commanding officer of the underground bunker that housed two factions of the living: a small group of scientists who were studying the living dead in hopes of stopping whatever is reanimating them, and a small group of soldiers who were growing despodent and volotile. He is verbally abusive and shows signs of being on the verge of a complete breakdown.

After the commanding officer is killed, Captain Rhodes becomes commanding officer. One of the chief scientists, Dr. Logan, has been conducting experiments on the undead collected from the corral. He has been working with a zombie he has named “Bub” to see how much of his human mind he may have retained. Amazingly, Bub seems to respond to common objects, and even reveals a docile nature instead of simply viewing Logan as "food".

Rhodes, who refers to Logan as "Dr. Frankenstein", is not impressed by his progress, and after he discovers that the doctor has been using his own deceased troops as food for the zombies, he shoots the doctor. Rhodes orders the pilot, John to prepare the helicopter for evacuation, telling him that only the army personnel will be evacuated, and the scientists will be left in the silo to die. John refuses and Rhodes responds by immediately murdering another doctor, by shooting him in the head. John realizes he must obey Rhodes. Two other people are taken to the holding corral and are forced inside with the undead.

Meanwhile, the compound’s main elevator to the surface, deliberately opens by Miguel Salazar and leading the zombies into the complex. The undead easily infiltrate the complex in overwhelming numbers and devour the remaining soldiers. Steel, Rhodes second in command, flees in the bunker along with Rhodes, and kills several zombies, but ends up being bitten, and kills himself. Meanwhile, Rhodes seeks refuge in another room, unaware that Bub has gotten free, and acquired an M1911 pistol. Rhodes flees from Bub, but is shot twice. Rhodes tries to escape via a door, but is ambushed by a group of zombies. Bub shoots Rhodes in the liver. Bub lumbers away, while Rhodes is torn in two at the waist. Using what's left of his oxygen, Rhodes Says "Choke on 'em!" (an adlibbed line by Joseph Pilato) and dies.

Doctor Logan

Doctor Logan (Richard Liberty) is a doctor in the compound, he does weird experiments on the zombies, such as severing all organs from a zombie's body, in which case the zombie's brain alone keeps it alive and active.

Doctor Logan seems to keep an unnaturally cool head despite the situation in the bunker. Early on Doctor Logan manages to keep a logical standpoint even next to the ill-tempered Rhodes. Late in the film Logan appears to be suffering from insanity, begging for acknowledgment from his deceased parents in his notebook.

When Rhodes finds out Logan is feeding the zombies his deceased troops' body parts, Rhodes murders him. Despite not being shot in the head he does not reanimate.

One particular tunnel complex of the underground compound has been used to corral zombies for study by the scientists. During an operation to retrieve a few undead “specimens,” Miguel is bitten. Rhodes, the commanding officer, reluctantly allows Miguel to live after Sarah amputates his wounded arm with a machete, but Miguel lingers on in a feverish, unstable frame of mind.

After Rhodes discovers that one of the three doctors has been using his own deceased troops as food for the zombies, he starts to shoot the doctors and Sarah and another person are taken to the holding corral and are forced inside with the undead. Meanwhile, the wounded and delirious Miguel has become completely unhinged and has made his way to the compound’s main elevator to the surface, deliberately opening the gates and leading the zombies into the complex. The dead advance immediately and kill Miguel. The distraction allows the good to escape.

Rickles

Pvt. Rickles is a fictional character from George A. Romero's Living Dead films. In 'Day of the Dead' he appears to be a raunchily jovial character (His name may even be a reference to insult comic Don Rickles). He also appears to have a friendship with Pvt. Steel.

During the climax of Day of the Dead, Rickles is one of four soldiers still alive to fight through the zombie-infested bunker. He dies wildly laughing while being eaten by zombies.

Her lover is Miguel Salazar.

Sarah suffers from nightmares and her relationship with Miguel is breaking down due to his stress. She is the only female in the increasingly hostile male environment. Sarah is also a voice of reason as the situation the survivors find them selves in grows increasingly desperate. It is becoming obvious that they could very well be the last survivors in the immediate area, if not the whole country.

One particular tunnel complex of the underground compound has been used to corral zombies for study by the scientists. During an operation to retrieve a few undead “specimens,” Miguel is bitten. Meanwhile, the wounded and delirious Miguel has become completely unhinged and has made his way to the compound’s main elevator to the surface, deliberately opening the gates and leading the zombies into the complex. The dead advance immediately and kill Miguel. Rhodes has his second in command, the racist Steele, assault John. During their fight, the alarm signal is activated as the elevator brings hordes of zombies into the complex. Steele goes to investigate, and whilst momentarily losing concentration, Rhodes is knocked unconscious by John who then takes Rhodes weapons and goes into the corral where he rescues both William and Sarah.

As the zombies invade the complex, and devour all the soldiers, the 3 civilians climb up to the surface via a missile launch pad. They have very little time to board the helicopter, but they succeed. They land on an apparently deserted island. Their fate remains unknown, but it could be positive.

Steel

Pvt. Steel is a fictional character from George A. Romero's living dead films. In 'Day of the Dead', steel appears to be a friend of Rickles, often tasked with the same duties and laughing at the same things, and furiously threatening Miguel Salazar after a mistake on his part nearly gets Rickles killed. Steel is also a racist, and refers to Miguel Salazar as a "spick".

During the climax of 'Day of the Dead', Steel is one of 4 soldiers left alive to attempt to fight out of the underground bunker. After Rhodes, who abandoned Steel, he manages to get the farthest out of the compound. Steel however makes the mistake of halting in an attempt to kill Bub, and is himself snuck up on and bitten by a zombie. After madly counterattacking and being bitten further, Steel decides to kill himself.

Torrez

Pvt. Torrez is a fictional character from George A. Romero's Living Dead film 'Day of the Dead'. Despite Captain Rhodes' and Pvt. Steel's racist nature, he is seemingly not as affected as Miguel Salazar, obviously due to his being a minor character, and perhaps plot-wise due to his continued value to the military unit in contrast to the mentally degrading Miguel.

In the climax of 'Day of the Dead', Torrez is one of the four soldiers left in Rhodes' military unit to fight through the zombie-infested compound. He is the first to die, dismembered by zombies.

William McDermott

William McDermott (Jarlath Conroy) is a fictional character from George A. Romero’s living dead film Day of the Dead. He is an Irish born middle aged man who is in charge of communications in the underground bunker. He lives in a caravan with his friend John. William is a heavy drinker and enjoys smoking a pipe. He complains his equipment is inadequate, but the military people in charge don’t seem to care. They just want him to get on with his job, stop complaining and lay off the booze.

After Dr. Logan is shot dead, William and Sarah are held hostage by Rhodes and his men. When John refuses to fly the soldiers away, Rhodes has Sarah and William locked into the corral where many zombies lurk. With their situation seemingly hopeless, William takes Sarah further into the scary, dark catacombs.

William and Sarah are eventually joined by John, who has overpowered Rhodes thanks to a distraction that Miguel caused. The three make their way to a missile launch pad. They climb up to the outside world and narrowly escape into the helicopter.

They end up on a deserted island. Though their fate is unknown, it is suggested that maybe they will survive. William is last seen fishing with John while Sarah sits on the sandy dunes and completes a calendar entry.

The Living Dead

Bub

Bub (played by Sherman Howard) is a zombie who is from George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead." He demonstrated the most advanced abilities of any zombie from the Romero series of zombie films. Dr. Logan gave him the name 'Bub' after his father's country club nickname. Bub became Dr. Logan's guinea pig and demonstrated several behaviors that other zombie test subjects did not.

He was capable of several emotions, including fear, friendliness, sadness, even empathy and vengeance. When Capt. Rhodes first entered Bub's cell, Bub recognized his army uniform and saluted him. When given an unloaded pistol, he demonstrated from memory that he could operate the slide and then pull the trigger. When prompted, he was able to make an extremely labored attempt at speech. He believed Dr. Logan to be his friend and was quite distraught upon finding his murdered corpse. He was responsible for the death of Capt. Rhodes.

It was proven that Bub was capable of seeing humans as more than just food. Dr. Logan presented Bub with ample opportunities to eat or attack him. Bub once even grabbed Dr. Logan's arm, but decided against biting him and released his hold. Even after shooting Capt. Rhodes he saluted him and walked away with out bothering to join in with the rest of the zombies who began feasting on the remains.

His current status is unknown.

Riley Denbo (Simon Baker) is a fictional character from George A. Romero’s “Land of the Dead”. Denbo is a quiet man, seemingly exhausted by the work he has to do which is scavenging for supplies. Not much is known of his life before the outbreak. He has revealed that his brother was bitten and that he had to shoot him when he revived. He has no known relatives or spouse and has only 1 trusted friend, Charlie.

Denbo works for Kaufman, the wealthy business man who through power and fear, runs “Fiddler’s Green” and the surrounding city in Pittsburgh. Denbo designed, built and was in charge of “Dead Reckoning” – a massive vehicle as long as two city buses that is heavily armed and protected by armour plating that ventures into the now wastelands of Pittsburgh to retrieve essential supplies. Denbo retired from work and was meant to collect a car that would enable him to realise his dream of escaping to Canada and a hopefully zombie free zone. However, Denbo is ripped off and after rescuing “Slack” from a certain death, is imprisoned. However, Denbo’s reckless side-kick Cholo Demora, disgruntled that Kaufman refused to let him live in the exclusive apartment building, steals “Dead Reckoning” and threatens to turn the guns onto the city. Kaufman has Denbo and his friend Charlie and the newly met Slack released so they can try to intercept and re-acquire the Dead Reckoning.

Denbo succeeds in retrieving the vehicle but not before a massive horde of zombies have infiltrated the city. In a desperate race against time, Denbo tries to rescue the wealthy who have poured onto the streets. But he is too late. The people have succumbed. He orders missiles to be fired to destroy the flesh eating zombies and to stop any infected people rising from the dead. However, the poor people of the area have survived. An uprising of the poor has now occurred. Denbo consults renegade leader Mulligan, who gives Denbo the impression that nothing much has really changed. Denbo reboards the Dead Reckoning and heads for Canada. He decides not to destroy any remaining zombies who are now retreating as they are “Looking for a place to go. Like us”. He and his friends fire the last of their “sky flowers” and heads to an uncertain future.

Cholo Demora

Cholo Demora is a fellow survivor and crew captain in Fiddler's Green. Like Riley, Cholo serves Kaufman and helps bring supplies into Fiddler's Green from nearby towns and cities. However, Cholo has shown himself to be self-centered and somewhat of a mercenary for hire. He serves Kauffman out of the false hope that he will pay him extra for performing certain tasks issued by Kauffman (i.e. killing and dumping the bodies of those Kauffman viewed as unfit to live in the Green) and allow him to live in one of the luxurious Fiddler's Green apartments. However, when Kauffman denies these privelages, Cholo becomes enraged. With the help of his crew, steals Dead Reckoning, an armored truck used in the protection of the troops and vows to use the trucks missiles to, "blow Kauffman out of his fuckin' castle!" if he does not pay Cholo's demands.

Kauffman dispatches Riley to do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of the Green. After finding Cholo, Riley tries to negotiate Cholo's surrender, Cholo refuses. Cholo is then injured by a stray bullet fired by one of Riley's crew. He agrees to surrender Dead Reckoning to Riley but decides not to return to the Green. Instead he and a friend take Riley's car and begin to leave but as they do, Cholo is surprised by a zombie who bites him on the hand, infecting him. After this Cholo returns to the Green to confront Kauffman before he turns into a zombie. After his transformation is complete, the now zombified Cholo finds Kauffman attempting to leave Fiddler's Green in a Limosine. He repeatedly tries to bite Kauffman but Kaufman barely manages to hold Cholo at arms length. As this happens another zombie, uses a lit oil can to ignite spilled gasoline on the parking lot floor and causes Kaufman's limosine to explode killing both him and Cholo for good.

A young mercenary who gets bitten during Cholo's raid of a liquor store, Mike did not want to become a zombie so he ended up taking Riley's gun and shooting himself

Motown

A mercenary along with Manolette and Pilsbury sent by Kaufman to accompany Riley to find Cholo. When Motown was about to get Cholo, she is ambushed and killed by a zombie, during this she accidentally fires her weapon, resulting in Cholo getting shot in the abdomen

Manolette

A mercenary along with Pilsbury and Motown sent to accompany Riley to get Cholo, after he is bitten by a zombie, he shot to death by Riley

The Living Dead

Big Daddy

Big Daddy was the "leader" of the zombie horde that attacked Fiddler's Green. He is a black man wearing coveralls, and appears to have died of natural causes, as there is no visible sign of injury. He is also rather intelligent, and views his fellow zombies with empathy, even going so far as to push them down out of the line of fire, and on separate occasions "killing" zombies who have been decapitated or set aflame, out of mercy. He carries an assault rifle he grabs off of a passing motorist during the raid at the beginning of the movie, which he gradually learns to use; he even teaches another zombie to use it as well. His actions over the course of the film show that the intelligence exhibited by Bub in Day of The Dead has begun to affect other zombies as well, from minor details such as more and more zombies carrying weapons, to Big Daddy's leading and directing the zombie horde to attack Fiddler's Green. Unlike other zombies, Big Daddy apparently has no desire to feed on flesh, probably having suppressed this impulse with his developing intelligence. During the climax of the film, he locates Kauffman attempting to escape via limo, and begins pouring gasoline into the smashed windshield of the limo. As Kauffman is attacked by a zombified Cholo, he rolls a flaming canister down towards the limo, killing Kauffman. During the final scenes of the film, Big Daddy is shown one final time, still leading his "family" of zombies to wherever they may wander.

Blades AKA Machette Zombie

This is Blades who has turned into a zombie after the events of Dawn of the Dead and follows Big Daddy, still using hes famous Machete to kill.He seems to have alot of smartness and can use his machete well in good hand.His appearance still looks as if he had blood spilled on.

Number 9

Number 9 is a young female cheerleader, about in her 20's that was bitten, and reanimated as a Zombie. Her most outstanding feature is the terrible flesh wound on the side of her face. She follows Big Daddy everywhere he goes, and seems to have no problem listening to his commands albeit in Zombie language. (If you could call it a "language")

Zombie Band

The Zombie Band consists of four or five Zombies that have died and reanimated. Amazingly, each Zombie has the ability to play a musical instrument. Although, they can't play them like there former selves, they have the ability to make some musical noise.

Butcher Man

The Butcher Man is an older male that died and later reanimated. In the movie, he is in a full Deli outfit, holding a butcher knife. While the dead were attacking the city, Big Daddy taught Butcher Man to use his butcher knife as a tool to break through a wooden door.
