Barbara later attended Steve's wedding to Melanie, taking a shine to Phil Mitchell, to the point of putting his photograph on her mantelpiece.

Steve later visited Barbara while she was in a critical condition and confronted her about the abuse she'd showered on him when he was a child. She responded by talking about the problems she'd had with his father and asked that Steve kiss her. He reluctantly gave her a peck on the forehead but she insisted he kiss her on the lips. When he leaned forward, Barbara grabbed him, gave him several passionate kisses, told him that he was an attractive man and died. Only Melanie attended Barbara's funeral while Steve was playing away with a strange woman.
