Wild West Online: Gunfighter is a Mmorpg, developed by Tenderfoot Games, that allows players take on the role of a gunfighter in the Wild West of the 1870s. Players pair up to duel with pistols in simulated 3d settings of the old west. The browser based software is available for free download, for both Windows and Mac platforms.

The game consists primarily of a series of duels against human opponents over the internet or bots (computer opponents stored on the server). It was originally designed as the combat system of the larger MMO roleplaying game, Wild West Online, but after its development Tenderfoot Games decided to release it as an independent game. Players engage in random duels against other opponents, earning experience, script, and items after each fight.[1]

As of March 2010, WWO: Gunfighter had 136,648 registered users.[2]

Gameplay[]

Gameplay is reminiscent of the combat systems found in early RPG (role-playing game) video games. Players build their characters using clothes, guns, holster, etc each with various attributes and couple them with various selectable actions to construct individual strategies that are played out in the game through simulated pistol dueling. The game's gunfights replicate cinematic-style pistol shootouts as often presented in Western films. The games gunfights are always one-on-one. Opponents begin in game by facing each other at various distances in the games 3D 1880's American West environments. Players then take simultaneous turns choosing actions each round. The games goal is to deplete the opponents heath to zero, usually by means of shooting pistols.[3][4]

The game is playable for free but encourages players to choose premium services to obtain revenue.[5]
